St. Petersburg, FL
The Hip Abduction is a six-piece afropop rock band from St. Petersburg, FL, that weaves together Western pop aesthetics with African rhythms and traditions. Self-described as “wanderlust-inspired global pop,” the band places heavy emphasis on African stringed instruments (kora, ngoni), dub-reggae-inspired bass lines and funky afro-beat percussion. Formed on the Gulf Coast of Florida in 2010, The Hip Abduction’s high-energy performances and good vibes message have won them loyal followers across the continent. Bolstered by the success of their 2013 self-titled release, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Reggae charts and continues to top the iTunes counterpart, THA shared Gold Under The Glow last year, to rave reviews. Having quickly grown into a full-blown powerhouse, the band have shared festival stages the world over with the likes of Ziggy Marley, Umphrey’s McGee, Galactic, Dawes and .moe. These guys are the perfect way to finish the night after Trey burns down the Blues Tent!
