Harvest Announces 2008 CBC Galaxie Rising Star Finalists

The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival today announced five finalists that will compete to be the 2008 CBC Galaxie Rising Star, one of the region's most important musical competitions. An important career launching pad for developing New Brunswick performers, the August 13th showcase at Dolan's Pub, is presented by the Festival and Galaxie, CBC's continuous music network, and offers regional and national exposure for the top five finalists.

With more big-name international acts, more intimate jazz offerings and an initiative to green Fredericton's biggest annual event, the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival launched its 18th edition today.
Headlining the September 9-14 non-profit Festival will be five-time Grammy Award Winner Buddy Guy from Chicago, million-selling Brit pop stars Bloc Party, Georgia guitar-wizard Derek Trucks, Vermont's hot prospect Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Amsterdam's Ana Popovic, France's Nano, and the United Kingdom's premier jazz vocalist Sarah Jane Morris performing with long-time Sting guitarist Dominic Miller.
