Corey Harris to Play Harvest's Winter Blues Series Finale
March 26, 2010
The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival is wrapping up the biggest Winter Blues Series in Festival history on a high note with 2003 Festival headliner Corey Harris.
Harris will hit the stage with his Band, The Rasta Blues Experience, at Dolan’s Pub on Thursday, April 8th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $14.99 and can be purchased at the Harvest office at 81 Regent Street, your local Ticketpro outlet, over the phone at 454-2583 or online at either www.harvestjazzandblues.com or www.ticketpro.ca.
As an artist, Harris has forged his own path with his music by continuously seeking the deepest, truest essence of blues, reggae and roots music through examining and celebrating their origins, from Africa to New Orleans, to the Caribbean.
With a strong reggae influence, his expressive music manages to appeal to a wide spectrum of blues fans - from staunch traditionalists to those with more contemporary sensibilities. Harris has also earned critical success and prestigious accolades, most notably the MacArthur Fellowship, also known as the Genius Award.
Harris was awarded this half-million-dollar prize in 2007 for his innovative musical development, which combines art, music and history. The MacArthur Foundation stated, “Harris forges an adventurous path marked by deliberate eclecticism.”
With his newest album blu.black, Harris stays true to his eclectic roots-reggae style of blues, captured with an organic recording process. The result is a live-sounding record that is reminiscent of his captivating stage performances.
Widely considered the future of blues, The Blues Revue has described Harris as “musically rich, instrumentally diverse and bursting at the seams with the spirit of African traditional music.”
