Blues Legend Eddie Shaw to appear in Fredericton! Proudly presented by the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, join us for a night of amazing blues on October 17th at the James Joyce Pub featuring Chicago blues band, Eddie Shaw and the Wolf Gang with Fredericton's own, Thom Swift.
When the Blues revival of the 60's and 70's were in full swing it was only natural that Eddie Shaw was a focal point of the movement. Most notably, Eddie Shaw & the Wolf Gang was the original back-up Band for the legendary Howlin' Wolf. The Band has performed in virtually every state in the U.S. and toured over a dozen foreign countries and is considered to be the premier Chicago blues band performing today.
Eddie Shaw a tenor saxophonist, who also plays harmonica, is an extremely talented singer/songwriter, arranger and one of the most respected blues musicians alive today. One of the greatest saxophonists to ever play the Blues, Shaw is a multiple Blues Music Award winner who has been parading his lusty licks and emotion-charged vocals on stage for more than 50 years. His music has been recorded by the likes of John Hammond, Magic Sam, Otis Rush, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon and more. When it comes to the Blues, few have come close to accumulating a resume to match that of Eddie Shaw. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee', Shaw now calls Chicago's South Side home.
A veteran to the Harvest Stage and Fredericton favourite, Thom Swift will kick off the night with the rich, soulful voice he is known for. An award-winning musician, Swift took home the 2008 Canadian Maple Blues Award for New Artist of the Year and a 2008 ECMA for Blues Recording of the Year, both for his 2007 solo debut CD, Into The Dirt. Swift, also a member of Hot Toddy Trio, will woo you with his honest lyrics, enticing melodies and distinctive blend of folk, blues, country and rag style!
